With more than 40

managing user identities
across hundreds of
applications running on
multiple platforms. A
streamlined identity
management solution
running on Linux has
increased security and
improved regulatory
compliance, while
dramatically reducing
costs.
The advantages of running
Linux are well known -
lower costs, better
adherence to open
standards, no domineering
corporate power, better
security, etc. However,
there's one area where
Linux users are subject
to all the same
challenges and pitfalls
as other systems:
corporate e-mail. E-mail
remains the single
biggest source of
security breaches and IT
headaches simply because
most Linux-based IT
departments still rely on
Microsoft Exchange Server
for their e-mail. And,
because Microsoft
Exchange Server has such
a large installed user
base, it remains a
favorite target of
hackers and spammers.
One of the most serious
problems facing larger
organizations considering
using Linux and Open
Source application stacks
is managing the software
environment. The basic
Linux system has adequate
tools to manage a single
machine, or even a small
group of machines, but
once the population of
these machines reaches
into the tens and
hundreds and spreads
across multiple
application areas and
multiple locations the
management task becomes
harder.

Since its beginning in
1982, Orbital Sciences
has become a pioneer in
developing smaller
rockets and satellite
systems for such diverse
purposes as intercepting
hostile missiles launched

Orbital relies on massive
amounts of computing
power to continually
optimize and simulate
launch vehicles for
reliability and accuracy.
Mindbridge, the makers of

twice as much on the
desktop software as they
did on the hardware,

something was wrong with
this picture. Through a
gradual process, almost
all of the 50+ employees
